Overview

We use an early version of linked.art to model art objects. For more details on these patterns, see common patterns and the linked.art documentation.

Base types and classifications

All art objects are emitted with a type of ManMadeObject and classified as aat:300133025 ("artworks").

Identifiers

Identifiers are commonly an Identifier or Name node with a classified_as property. Typical classifications include:

  • Repository number: aat:300404621 ("repository numbers")
  • Accession number: aat:300312355 ("accession numbers")
  • Title: aat:300404670 ("preferred terms")

Descriptive cataloguing

As noted in the section on common patterns, descriptive cataloguing for art objects become LinguisticObject nodes with a classified_as property. Common descriptive cataloguing classifications are:

  • Dimensions: aat:300266036 ("dimensions")
  • Medium: aat:300163343 ("media")
  • Description: aat:300080091 ("description")
  • Credit line: aat:300026687 ("acknowledgements")
  • Copyright statement: aat:300055547 ("legal concepts")
