The portal uses ElasticSearch to provide the browse and search experiences on the site. This index is usually managed on its own and is hosted on bonsai.io.
When a user enters search text in the portal's search bar, fields are weighted in favor of matches from cataloguing in the user's chosen language. Likewise facets that represent controlled vocabulary terms like object classifications are weighted in favor of the chosen locale.
